Welcome to Your New Life

Who we want

New Times recruits native English speakers mainly from Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. We are looking for individuals with a professional demeanor. You don¡¯t have to be a ¡°suit¡±, but you do have to look good. Our teachers come from a variety of backgrounds, both academic and business, and we really encourage that diversity as we have clients that range from kindergarten all the way up the totem pole to the top management of major multi-nationals. So, if you¡¯re an MBA, or took a course in Early Childhood Education, and all in between, we want to talk to you.

Where we are

Our office is located smack dab in the middle of the ¡®laowai¡± district in the south of Chengdu. We are two blocks from the US Consulate, popular bars Carol¡¯s Too and Shamrock, popular foreign eatery Peter¡¯s Tex-Mex Grill, and there¡¯s a Subway, Pizza Hut, the Golden Arches and KFC in a large international shopping center only a block away. Sabrina¡¯s import foods is also just across the street, for the days when you just need a foreign chocolate bar, or bag of Doritos. That¡¯s not to say we think you are going to want to live that western lifestyle, but it is available and you can set the right blend of cultural immersion that suits you, or you and your family.    Check out "Laowai" Landmarks

How¡¯s the pay?

New Times pays a salary range based on experience and sets a standard of 25 working hours per week as a baseline. Some of our teachers like to work more and be paid more, and that is fine with us. It¡¯s your choice. We pay OT rates for anything above your contract minimum. You¡¯ll have 20 days paid vacation time each year and we cover a 6,000RMB flight allowance on contract completion. We provide accommodation for our teachers in apartments that we lease within walking distance of our office. With New Times you are guaranteed a steady healthy income and you¡¯ll live a life comparable to a middle-high income lifestyle here. Plenty of discretionary income for dining out, travel on your holidays to many exotic locals more affordable and accessible from Chengdu, or living in an upscale building. It¡¯s all according to your taste and that lifestyle begins the moment you start working for us. View our testimonials for more info.

Who you¡¯ll teach

It¡¯s important to come to a new position with all of the info and no false impressions. Yes, at New Times we have a wide variety of clientele. We are a business training center and have many multi-national clients. We also have numerous middle school and primary school programs for which we provide professional teaching staff. Plan to be flexible if you come to work for us. In Western China, the ESL marketplace does not always allow for a flow of consistent teaching in one discipline or experience level. You have to adapt and we are looking for those people who come wanting a challenge like that. Be prepared to go with the flow. We¡¯ll give you the support you need. We¡¯ll send you out on training missions with our more experienced teachers if you like, so you can get a feel for it. Above all, Sichuan is a different working atmosphere than Eastern Chinese cities. And that¡¯s one of the reasons many of our teachers decide to stay on extra time or even permanently.
